氯化锌/2-甲基四氢呋喃溶液主要用于有机合成，例如：
-通过金属交换反应将有机镁和有机锂化合物转化为相应的锌试剂，以用于 C-C 偶联反应（Negishi 偶联反应）。
-通过标准碱对羰基化合物进行去质子化后，使用氯化锌进行金属交换反应，生成烯醇锌。
-催化环加成反应，例如富电子二烯与羰基化合物的 Diels-Alder 环加成反应。
-制备选择性还原剂，例如让钠硼氢化物与氯化锌发生反应，生成硼氢化锌。
