氯化锌/2-甲基四氢呋喃溶液主要用于有机合成,例如:

-通过金属交换反应将有机镁和有机锂化合物转化为相应的锌试剂,以用于 C-C 偶联反应(Negishi 偶联反应)。
-通过标准碱对羰基化合物进行去质子化后,使用氯化锌进行金属交换反应,生成烯醇锌。
-催化环加成反应,例如富电子二烯与羰基化合物的 Diels-Alder 环加成反应。
-制备选择性还原剂,例如让钠硼氢化物与氯化锌发生反应,生成硼氢化锌。
