Phenylmagnesium Bromide, typ. 45 % solution in 2-Methyl-THF(typ. 2.9 M)
C₆H₅BrMg
Phenylmagnesium Bromide (CAS 100-58-3) is an organomagnesium (Grignard) reagent with molecular formula C6H5BrMg. It is supplied as a typical 45% solution in 2-Methyl-THF.
In organic synthesis it is used in Grignard-type reactions as a reactive carbon nucleophile. Grignard-reactions: reagent for the introduction of the phenyl group.
Many reagents in this class react readily with moisture and oxygen. Handle under dry, inert conditions using air‐ and water‐free techniques, and add slowly/with cooling when quenching or charging to control heat release. Consult the SDS and site-specific procedures for compatible materials, fire response, and storage.
Applications
Grignard-reactions: reagent for the introduction of the phenyl group.

Method of Analysis
Determination of assay as total base by acidimetric titration after hydrolysis; Detailed description available on request.Handling and Storage
Handling Instructions
Handling Phenylmagnesium Bromide should only be handled under inert gas atmosphere. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothes as well as inhalation. Never add water, acids or oxidizing materials tot he product. Vapors may form explosive mixtures with air. Vapors are heavier than air and may spread along floors. Flash-back possible over considerable distance. Use only explosion-proof equipment. Take measures against electrostatic discharges. Protect from frost, heat and sunlight. In case of fire use dry extinguishers based on sodium chloride or limestone powder, never use water or CO2. Pay attention to the Safety Data Sheet.
Storage Instructions
Storage Phenylmagnesium Bromide should be stored in tightly closed containers under exclusion of air and humidity. When stored according to SDS the material is fairly stable. We still recommend to retest the material 6 months after date of analysis if included on CoA. If not included, use the date of manufacturing for the calculation.
