Spodumen wird wegen der starken Flusseigenschaften von Lithia in Gläsern, Glaskeramiken, Porzellan-Emaillen, Weißwaren und Glasuren verwendet. Es besitzt eine sehr geringe Wärmeausdehnung und verringert die Viskosität der Glasmasse. Es trägt zur Brillanz und Festigkeit des Glases bei. Spodumen wird auch in der Metallurgie verwendet, z. B. in Stranggusspulvern, zur Blattrippenminderung und als Zusatzstoff in der Gießereizuführungsherstellung.
