Lithium Nitride
Li3N
Lithium Nitride (CAS 26134-62-3) is an inorganic salt with molecular formula Li3N. It is typically supplied as a fine powder.
Lithium Nitride is a highly reactive inorganic nitride that can act as a nitrogen source in synthesis and as a precursor to other lithium–nitrogen compounds. Its reactivity makes it useful for specialized transformations where controlled nitridation or amide formation is required.
Lithium Nitride reacts readily with moisture and oxygen and should be handled under dry, inert conditions. Consult the SDS and site-specific procedures for compatible materials, fire response, and storage.
Specifications
- Lithium Nitride: min. 94%
Method of Analysis
Assay by determination of nitrogen by the method of Kjeldahl. A detailed laboratory instruction is available on request.Handling Instructions
Lithium Nitride should be handled under inert gas atmosphere. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothes as well as inhalation. Dust may form explosive mixture with air. Lithium Nitride decomposes in contact with humidity. Pay also attention to the Safety Data Sheet - Section 7.
Storage Instructions
Lithium Nitride should be stored in tightly closed containers under exclusion of humidity at gentle temperatures. Keep away from heat, sparks and fire. When stored according to SDS the material has limited stability due to decomposition over time. We therefore recommend to consume Lithium Nitride within a period of six months after receipt. Pay also attention to the Safety Data Sheet.
