Our 800 acre site sits on one of the richest spodumene ore deposits in the world. In addition, this site produces battery-grade lithium hydroxide, lithium bromide, lithium chloride, USP-grade lithium carbonate, high purity lithium carbonate, battery grade lithium metal products and lithium alloy powders. Our Global Technical Center and Piloting Operation has the capability to produce a wide range of new lithium based materials for battery applications. In addition, lithium-based chemicals including amides, hydrides, and alkoxides can also be made by our Pilot Plant. In 2012, we completed the design and construction of a new world-class 5,000 metric ton battery-grade lithium hydroxide plant and a new state-of-the-art 57,000 square feet Global Technical Center making Kings Mountain one of the most sophisticated advanced lithium material sites in the world.

Magnolia, Arkansas

Albemarle's Magnolia manufacturing plants are two of the world's largest suppliers of bromine and bromine chemicals. Our two plants in Columbia County produce different chemical ingredients used in the manufacturing of a wide range of products. Albemarle now employs several hundred people in Columbia County and operates around the clock, seven days a week. Our sites in Magnolia also house an artificial marsh, which acts as a unique wastewater treatment facility and demonstrates our commitment to the local environment.

Albemarle’s plant in New Johnsonville, Tennessee has been in operation since the early 1960s to produce normal and secondary butyllithium. The site sits on approximately 100 acres on Foote Lane. To ensure reliability of supply to the customers this site has two separate butyllithium production facilities. In addition to butyllithium, a specialty chemical plant has the ability to produce a wide range of organo-metallic compounds.

Silver Peak, Nevada

Silver Peak is an Albemarle production site for our Lithium business. It is recognized as the only producing lithium mine in North America. In the 1960s, Foote pioneered the production of lithium carbonate from brine with the opening of the Silver Peak, NV plant. In 1984, the world’s richest commercial brine deposit went on stream at Salar de Atacama in the desert of northern Chile. Today, the Silver Peak and Salar de Atacama plants combine to produce in excess of 60 m mt of lithium carbonate equivalents per year. In addition to lithium carbonate, Albemarle produces in Silver Peak special lithium hydroxide grades. Products developed here are most notably used in the application of lithium batteries to create a sustainable and affordable energy storage technology that reduces greenhouse gases, enables life-saving portable medical devices, and diversifies the world's energy position.

Our location in Twinsburg makes brominated powdered activated carbon to support the Mercury Control segment of our Bromine Specialties business. Located southeast of Cleveland, it is one of our most efficient sites with less than 10 employees. This site has an excellent safety record.
