Lithium Metal
Li
Lithium Metal (CAS 7439-93-2) is a soft and light alkali metal with a silver-greyish metallic appearance. It is provieded in various physical forms such as ingots, blocks, rods and granulate.
Lithium Metal is a common starting material for various organic lithium compounds and is often used as a reducing agent (i.e. for Birch reductions) in organic synthesis.
Lithium Metal reacts readily with moisture, oxygen and nitrogen and should be handled under dry, inert conditions under Argon. It is commonly covered with a thin oil film. Consult the SDS and site-specific procedures for compatible materials, fire response, and storage.
Applications
Starting material for organic lithium compounds. Reduction and deoxidizing agent.
