Celebrating 45 Years with the Communities of Northern Chile
Albemarle commemorates 45 years of history in Chile, working hand in hand with communities and contributing to the sustainable development of the northern part of the country. From its operations in the Atacama Salt Flat and La Negra, the company has built relationships based on trust, respect, and collaboration.
We launched Early Citizen Participation for the TED project
We began the Early Citizen Participation (ECP) process for the “Transition to Direct Extraction” (TED) project with talks for students from the Toconao Educational Complex and the Lican Antai Bicentennial High School in San Pedro de Atacama. We will continue this initiative with two sessions that will take place at the San Pedro de Atacama Cultural Foundation. We begin on Friday, October 24th, at 1:00 PM, and there will also be a family event with the play "El Mundo del Pipiripón" from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. On Saturday, October 25th, we will be there from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and we invite the entire community to participate.
Alliance for Culture, Heritage, and Local Identity
With an investment of more than $144 million, Albemarle and the San Pedro de Atacama Culture Foundation finalized the "Framework Collaboration Agreement," an alliance initiated in 2017 that promoted workshops in local communities, artistic activities for students, the strengthening of the Toconao Cultural Center, and the creation of the "Lickanantay Craftsmanship Seal."
The program yielded emblematic projects such as the renovation of the Lickan Antai High School and a web platform with augmented reality, culminating in a ceremony that highlighted the agreement's impact on local cultural identity and heritage.
Apprenticeship Programs for 2025
This year, the Women's Apprenticeship Program will be launched for the first time. This program aims to incorporate more women into the mining industry, providing them with technical training and practical experience in operations, in a sector historically dominated by men.
Meanwhile, the Community Apprenticeship Program has been providing concrete skills to young people and adults from communities such as San Pedro de Atacama and Antofagasta for four years, combining theoretical training with supervised practical experience at the Salar Plant and the La Negra Plant. Many of its participants have subsequently joined Albemarle as employees.
Ecological Restoration in the Atacama Salt Flat
Albemarle and Ausenco have developed a pioneering ecological restoration project in the Atacama Salt Flat, which includes an experimental nursery to propagate native species and work alongside communities such as Peine on environmental education.
The initiative has already identified 336 species, 82% of which are native, generating key information for conservation and future public policies.
Local Supplier Network in Peine and Toconao
As part of the Albemarle+Local initiative, meetings were held in Peine and Toconao to promote a network of local suppliers. During these meetings, supplier databases were updated, gaps were identified, and training plans were presented.
At present, 18 suppliers work with Albemarle. Our goal is to progressively expand the network and to consolidate more strategic partners for operations at the Salar Plant.
