100 Inspiring Women of Chilean Mining Award Ceremony

Albemarle Stands Out Among the 100 Inspiring Women in Chilean Mining

Antofagasta, April 27, 2022.- Last Friday, April 22, the Andrés Sabella Auditorium of the Universidad Católica del Norte hosted the award ceremony where two Albemarle workers were highlighted in the ranking of the 100 Inspiring Women of Chilean Mining, developed by the organization Women in Mining (WIM) Chile, an NGO that works for the incorporation of women in the industry.

During a regional instance that sought to highlight local professionals, the evaluation committee recognized 100 women, among which Paulette San Martín, Environmental Monitoring Leader, recognized in the Sustainability category and Alejandra Ayavire, Quality Chemistry, outstanding in the Leadership category.

For Alejandra Ayavire, Quality Chemist, "having received this recognition has been very symbolic and gives the instances to continue working to improve the system and have more women in mining, to support new leaderships."

For her part, Paulette San Martín, Environmental Monitoring Leader, added that this instance motivates her to continue to "be an inspiration for my daughters, for the women who are in Albemarle and tell them that you can always work and that you have to work with perseverance."

Alejandra Ayavire has extensive experience in the company, where she has also exercised leadership as a union leader of one of the unions at Planta La Negra. In 2021, she also received the regional award "Outstanding Woman in Mining", presented by the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality.

Meanwhile, Paulette San Martín, Environmental Monitoring Leader, works at the Salar Plant. Thanks to his perseverance and commitment, he stood out leading the Salar Plant Nursery project, located in the middle of the desert and aimed at the production of species typical of the Salar de Atacama and the generation of biological knowledge that will serve to ensure the conversation and restoration of the ecosystem.

Likewise, Tamara Leves Hamen, President of WIM Chile emphasized the local nature of the ceremony, highlighting that "today we came to Antofagasta to recognize the women who are in the area, because we have a duty to the communities we impact and these women who are around the region are working in their companies and are also leaving a mark in their communities"

Ignacio Mehech, Vice President of External Affairs and Country Manager of Albemarle, expressed his pride in the milestone achieved by Paulette and Alejandra. "This is a recognition that motivates us to continue working to achieve an increasing female participation. Albemarle takes inclusion and diversity very seriously, creating inclusive environments where all people feel respected and valued."

This project was made possible thanks to mining companies in the region, together with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Mining and the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality. Those who want to know more can check out the https://www.womeninminingchile.cl/ page.
