Albemarle Publishes 2025 Sustainability Report

Report highlights progress in stewardship, innovation and operational excellence.

June 8, 2026

Albemarle published its 2025 Sustainability Report: Resourceful, Responsible, Resilient, highlighting the company’s sustainability achievements and progress toward its 2030 goals.

"At Albemarle, our values shape how we lead, how we operate and how we create value over the long term," said Albemarle Chairman and CEO Kent Masters. "This report reflects our commitment to disciplined execution, responsible operations and continuous improvement as we support our customers and communities while building a more resilient future."

Report Highlights

Practicing responsible freshwater management

  • Our combined operations in Chile and Jordan remain on track to meet our 2030 freshwater intensity target of a 25% reduction. Chile is well ahead of target, having achieved a nearly 47% reduction in freshwater intensity from the 2019 baseline.
  • The NEBO project at our Jordan Bromine Company (JBC) joint venture produced its first commercial product — an innovative process that converts a bromine co-product stream into a saleable product without requiring additional freshwater.
  • At Kings Mountain, North Carolina, we completed the dewatering of the legacy mine pit using a multi-step water treatment system designed to exceed regulatory standards, a significant milestone in preparing the site for responsible redevelopment.

Promoting the resilience of our communities

  • Completed a comprehensive third-party human rights risk assessment at our Salar de Atacama site in Chile, confirming alignment with international standards and reinforcing our commitment to transparency and community trust.
  • Maintained our IRMA 50 performance level at the Salar de Atacama site following a surveillance audit.
  • Donated more than $3.2 million through the Albemarle Foundation, supporting education, environmental sustainability and community resilience initiatives worldwide.

Supporting our customers' sustainability goals

  • Commissioned a direct lithium extraction (DLE) pilot facility at our La Negra site in Chile, achieving a lithium recovery rate exceeding 94% over 3,000 hours of operation. The technology has the potential to increase process efficiency and contribute to a reduction in net brine pumping without requiring additional evaporation ponds or new extraction areas in the Salar.
  • Began commercial testing of SAYTEX ALERO®, a next-generation polymeric flame retardant designed to help customers meet evolving performance, regulatory and sustainability needs.
  • Advancing carbon transparency for our customers
  • Our Energy Storage segment remained ahead of its 2030 carbon intensity target, reflecting continued energy efficiency improvements and increased investment in renewable electricity across our global operations.
  • 26% of total electricity consumed was generated from renewable sources, up from 24% the prior year, with facilities in Chile, Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and Qinzhou, China sourcing 95–100% of purchased electricity from renewables.
  • The Greenbushes mine in Australia (ALB: 49%) became the first mine globally to be awarded an International Lithium Association (ILiA) Product Carbon Footprint verification stamp, a milestone in carbon transparency for our customers. Conducted asset-specific decarbonization assessments to advance our decarbonization roadmap and identify priority technologies and pathways to deliver measurable emissions reductions beyond 2030.

Additional 2025 highlights include:

  • Realized a 20% year-over-year reduction in injuries and a 40% reduction in process safety incidents across our operations.
  • Named to Forbes' Most Trusted Companies in America, recognized by TIME as one of the World's Best Companies for Sustainable Growth and included among USA TODAY's America's Climate Leaders 2025 and the Corporate Knights Clean200™
