Our Sustainability Report 2021 is now available and includes the company’s initial assessment of scope-3 greenhouse gas emissions, updates on existing targets for greenhouse gas emissions and freshwater reductions and newly set targets for the company’s diversity, equity and inclusion priorities.
Our second annual Sustainability Day webcast was held live on Tuesday, June 28, at 9:00 a.m. EDT with CEO Kent Masters, CFO Scott Tozier, VP of Government and Community Affairs Ellen Lenny-Pessagno, VP of Investor Relations and Sustainability Meredith Bandy and VP of Culture Timitra Hildebrand-Jones. This Sustainability Report marks a renewal of Albemarle's sustainability journey forward. The report references the latest version of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards which ensures relevant and transparent disclosures, and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) standards that help disclose material, decision-useful information to investors.
Charting our course for a more sustainable future continued throughout the year. Albemarle set sustainability targets for GHG emissions and freshwater use, launched a climate strategy that aligns with our customers' sustainability goals, and aligned ourselves with global standards signed UN Global Compact. These key highlights are reflected in the Sustainability Report Summary 2020.

SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2019
In 2019, Albemarle took a different approach to how we look at sustainability and how it fits into our overall business strategy. Our initial materiality analysis provided insight into the issues that matter most to us. Albemarle’s commitment to sustainability includes producing eco-friendly products and employing safe work practices. It entails strong ethics, meeting regulatory requirements, and engaging with non-governmental organizations (NGOs). It extends to protecting and preserving the environment and respecting and improving social and human rights.
Sustainability is also about discovery and continuous improvement. It’s about responding to emerging challenges, adapting to new realities, and employing innovation and agility as we journey across a constantly changing business landscape.

In 2018, Albemarle laid the groundwork for our first-ever global culture survey. We achieved our goal of providing a forum for employees to share anonymous, honest feedback about our company and values. We also dedicated time to create specific strategies that enhance overall safety performance. We emphasized encouraging a culture of inclusion and diversity by welcoming individuals with a range of skills, experiences, and cultures. Giving back to our communities through engagement, philanthropy, and volunteerism is an essential component of our sustainability strategy.
At Albemarle, we are inspired by “what’s next” and seek to provide safe and sustainable solutions that power the potential of our customers and stakeholders, as laid out in our Sustainability Report.

Within our 2017 Sustainability report, we are proud to showcase our strategy in a way consistent with Albemarle's Core Values to power the potential of the world around us.
Our sustainability approach primarily focuses on defending the science behind our chemistry solutions and promoting sustainable solutions to global challenges. In addition, we are also protecting our customers' businesses and advocating for clean energy sources for the world and communities in which we operate.

SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2016
This year's report recorded the lowest lost-time severity rate in company history from a safety perspective. We won multiple awards, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Green Chemistry Award for the AlkyClean® process and our Albemarle Care Fund (ACF) assist team members affected by the catastrophic flooding in Baton Rouge.
As an organization, we are making transportation fuels cleaner, enhancing the power of batteries that fuel new technologies, and manufacturing products that ultimately improve our lives and make us safer. We have realized historical successes and positioned ourselves as a global specialty chemicals company helping to power a cleaner environment and an innovative future.

SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2015
This year’s report, Albemarle integrated Rockwood into the company, bringing together two cultures that impacted our health, safety, and environment (HSE) performance. Other key highlights for the year include implementing the world’s first solid acid catalyst alkylation unit to utilize the AlkyStar catalyst and establishing the Albemarle Care Fund to allow current and former employees to help one another directly.
Albemarle is committed to meeting the needs of our customers for high-quality products in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. In this year's report, the creation of one of the world's largest specialty chemicals companies with leading positions across our four high-margin growth businesses - lithium, catalysts, bromine, and surface treatment, was born. Our 2014 OSHA Recordable Rate was 0.327, which places us in the top quartile of the companies in the American Chemistry Council (ACC). We also became a partner in ENERGY STAR®.
As we build the new company, our principles remain the same. We operate safely by reducing our environmental footprint, enhancing our communities, and delivering solid returns to our shareholders. With the perspective that comes from a century-long legacy of innovation and performance, we see a future of limitless potential to build progress for our customers, our company, and our world.

In this year's report, Albemarle is honored that our sustainability efforts led us to be named one of Corporate Responsibility Magazine's Top 100 Best Corporate Citizens for the third consecutive year. We also earned a top 10 spot on Corporate Responsibility Magazine's "Industry Sector Best Corporate Citizens" list in the Materials category. Also, The 2020 Women on Boards organization recognized our commitment to diversity for the second year.
Our environmental performance is our license to operate in communities around the world. While we currently work within our permit limits, we are committed to reducing our emissions. We are inspired by the potential of our knowledge and passion for powering a more sustainable planet.

SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2012
In this year's report, Albemarle demonstrated strong earnings power in a weak global economy. Key highlights include adding purification technology to substantially reduce bromine emissions at our facility in Magnolia, Arkansas. The American Chemistry Council recognized our efforts by naming Albemarle the 2012 "Responsible Care Company of the Year" for midsized chemical companies.
Our world is constantly changing. As the global standard of living improves, the need for the products Albemarle makes and the innovations we create grows with it. As environmental regulations change, we strive to contribute even more solutions to help keep the air, land, and water cleaner.
