This Sustainability Report marks a renewal of Albemarle's sustainability journey forward. The report references the latest version of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards which ensures relevant and transparent disclosures, and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) standards that help disclose material, decision-useful information to investors.
Charting our course for a more sustainable future continued throughout the year. Albemarle set sustainability targets for GHG emissions and freshwater use, launched a climate strategy that aligns with our customers' sustainability goals, and aligned ourselves with global standards signed UN Global Compact. These key highlights are reflected in the Sustainability Report Summary 2020.
SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2019
In 2019, Albemarle took a different approach to how we look at sustainability and how it fits into our overall business strategy. Our initial materiality analysis provided insight into the issues that matter most to us. Albemarle’s commitment to sustainability includes producing eco-friendly products and employing safe work practices. It entails strong ethics, meeting regulatory requirements, and engaging with non-governmental organizations (NGOs). It extends to protecting and preserving the environment and respecting and improving social and human rights.
Sustainability is also about discovery and continuous improvement. It’s about responding to emerging challenges, adapting to new realities, and employing innovation and agility as we journey across a constantly changing business landscape.
SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2018
In 2018, Albemarle laid the groundwork for our first-ever global culture survey. We achieved our goal of providing a forum for employees to share anonymous, honest feedback about our company and values. We also dedicated time to create specific strategies that enhance overall safety performance. We emphasized encouraging a culture of inclusion and diversity by welcoming individuals with a range of skills, experiences, and cultures. Giving back to our communities through engagement, philanthropy, and volunteerism is an essential component of our sustainability strategy.
At Albemarle, we are inspired by “what’s next” and seek to provide safe and sustainable solutions that power the potential of our customers and stakeholders, as laid out in our Sustainability Report.

As an organization, we are making transportation fuels cleaner, enhancing the power of batteries that fuel new technologies, and manufacturing products that ultimately improve our lives and make us safer. We have realized historical successes and positioned ourselves as a global specialty chemicals company helping to power a cleaner environment and an innovative future.
