Tyrone Nature Trail Supports Ongoing Commitment to Sustainability

Nature Trail | AlbemarleIn 2008, employees at our site in Tyrone, Pennsylvania developed a Nature Trail which has since received a Conservation Certification from the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC). The trail is situated on about 50 acres of land, maintained by employees, and open year-round to the public. In addition to being a great example of our commitment to sustainability - the trail serves as a popular destination for educational student field trips and birdwatching!

Learning on the Trail
There are four distinct habitats along the trail, which together create a holistic learning experience for students. The team in Tyrone installed six bridges to allow visitors to travel through the small streams and wetland areas. There are also two elevated observation decks to view wildlife and topography, located at a beaver pond and at the trail's largest meadow. An education center provides a classroom setting to cover woodland/forest education. During their time on the trail, students take part in a variety of hands-on activities developed by the Tyrone team. From nature games to soil classification, the activities have proven to be a great way to help students learn.

Birdwatching
Over the years, the trail has become a hotspot for birdwatching. Birdwatchers have added the Tyrone nature trail to the e-Bird website, a project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Birdwatchers use this tool to report bird sightings and find new places to go birding. To date, there have been over a hundred different bird species observed at the trail and posted to the e-Bird website.

Congratulations to our team in Tyrone for this great accomplishment and THANK YOU for your commitment to sustainability!
