Growing the Good: Championing Care

Albemarle employees across the globe are using volunteerism to make a difference. We asked several Albemarle employees, who use the Albemarle Foundations Volunteer Grant Program, to share how they are making a difference.

Champion House of Care Project One strives to reduce the extreme challenges that homeless families in Charlotte endure. The organization works with youth and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities to provide the nutrition, supplies, and education to help assist the families with the effects of homelessness.

Last year Maria Perez began volunteering with the Champion House of Care Project One, collecting, sorting and checking donated items and assembling bookbags as part of a Back-to-School event to help prepare children with the items they need.

She logged over 60 volunteer hours in 2021, and the Albemarle Foundation made a Volunteer Grant donation on her behalf. That donation helped support events such as the Community Give Back, where hygiene items, clothing, food, household items and book bags are provided to families.

“We’re currently preparing for a Prom Night,” said Perez. “We want our young adults with disabilities to have the wonderful experience of having a prom. To make this dream come true, we are collecting donations of makeup, shoes, dresses, suits and other items to create a special prom night.”

Volunteers exemplify Albemarle's Core Value of Care, as they play a vital role in contributing to the well-being of the communities where they live and work. To honor those who give of themselves and their time and increase their impact, Albemarle Foundation awards volunteer grants of up to $1,000 per calendar year. All eligible participants may request $200 for 15-plus hours of service, $500 for 35-plus hours of service, or $1,000 for 70-plus hours of service, payable to the same or different organizations.

Maria Perez is Business Process Master Data Steward at our corporate location in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
