An Insider’s View: The Kemerton Lithium Hydroxide Processing Plant

At Albemarle, we continue to expand our diverse global footprint of world class resources. Currently, we’re constructing what is expected to be one of the world’s largest lithium production facilities in Kemerton, Western Australia. Once completed, the assets of the construction will form the basis of a joint venture with our partners, Mineral Resources Limited.

Through this work, we are expanding the lithium refining industry in Western Australia, as well as our conversion capabilities. This important effort will allow us to supply our customers with lithium hydroxide that is used for the electrification of transport, ceramics, glass, pharmaceuticals and more.

With expectations to be complete by the end of this year, the team onsite is meeting critical milestones to support this effort. Among their key focus areas are executing construction, upholding our commitment to sustainability, creating strong community relationships, and building a workforce that reflects our culture and core values.

The site has already started to welcome Process Operators this year, with 127 new employees joining the Kemerton operations team. Over the next six months, recruitment will continue to be a key focus area as the team aims to hire 300 additional permanent employees by the end of 2021.

In this video, members of our Kemerton leadership team share updates about the progress of this project. Take a look to hear from Kemerton Site Director, Daniel O’Shea, Supply Chain Manager – Operations, Michael Ursino, and Human Resources Manager, Kristy Carter.
