Methylmagnesium Bromide, typ. 35 % solution in 2-MethylTHF (typ. 3.2 M)
CH₃BrMg
Methylmagnesium Bromide (CAS 75-16-1) is an organomagnesium (Grignard) reagent with molecular formula CH3BrMg. It is supplied as a typical 35% solution in 2-Methyl-THF.
In organic synthesis it is used in Grignard-type reactions as a reactive carbon nucleophile. Grignard-reactions: reagent for the introduction of the methyl group.
Many reagents in this class react readily with moisture and oxygen. Handle under dry, inert conditions using air‐ and water‐free techniques, and add slowly/with cooling when quenching or charging to control heat release. Consult the SDS and site-specific procedures for compatible materials, fire response, and storage.
Applications
Grignard-reactions: reagent for the introduction of the methyl group.

Method of Analysis
Determination of assay as total base by acidimetric titration after hydrolysis; detailed description available on request.Handling and Storage
Handling Instructions
Organomagnesium compounds should only be handled under inert gas (nitrogen or argon). Never add water, acids or oxidizing materials to the product. Vapors may form explosive mixtures with air. Vapors are heavier than air and may spread along floors. Flash-back possible over considerable distance. Use only explosion-proof equipment. Protect from frost, heat and sunlight. In case of fire use dry extinguisher on basis of sodium chloride or limestone powder. Never use water or CO2- extinguishers. Pay attention to official safety regulations (see also: ”Transport regulations” and “GHS Hazard Pictograms“).
Storage Instructions
When stored according to SDS the material is fairly stable. We still recommend to retest the material 6 months after date of analysis if included on CoA. If not included, use the date of manufacturing for the calculation. Keep container dry and tightly closed. Material starts to crystallise below -10 °C.
