Ketjen Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Albemarle Corporation, is currently seeking a Research Technician Supervisor at our Bayport, TX site.

The Research Technician Supervisor will work the FCC R&D Exploratory and New Product Development Group (E&NPD) located in our Bayport Research Facility. The successful candidate will supervise the operations and technician personnel in the E&NPD labs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise laboratory technicians in the E&NPD group
  • Commit to company's Health, Environmental, and Safety policies and ensure compliance within the team and laboratories
  • Participate in lab safety analysis (LSA) and MOC discussions to ensure safe work
  • Conduct performance management and career development of the team members
  • Organize and assign work and experiments to ensure the efficiency and productivity of the team daily
  • Communicate with researchers to clarify expectations and timelines for requested work
  • Oversee day-to-day lab operations, execute safety initiatives and equipment/lab maintenance
  • Ensure ISO 9001 compliance of lab operations
  • Maintain, improve, and develop SOPs for work conducted in the E&NPD labs
  • Handle purchasing activities including chemicals, materials, and equipment
  • Assist in the implementation of capital projects
  • Provide support to manufacturing on an as-needed basis
  • Facilitate development of alternative approaches and solutions to analytical, chemical, and safety/operation problems by developing new techniques and/or workflows
  • Work with minimal supervision, independently carrying out experiments to support the development of improved catalysts and catalytic ingredients
  • When needed, perform laboratory experiments such as synthesizing inorganic materials by precipitation, wet compounding, sol gel, and high-pressure techniques
  • Demonstrate meticulous work quality through attention to detail, completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
  • Adhere to data handling and sample submission procedures 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related disciplines from an accredited university
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Exemplary safety record and proven commitment to safety in the workplace
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Adept at technical troubleshooting, problem solving and solid mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent time management ability by understanding priorities, anticipating problems, and scheduling tasks effectively

Preferred Requirements

  • Previous experience in a chemistry laboratory
  • Proficient using analytical instrumentation including calibration, operation, and routine maintenance of equipment
  • Track record of safety stewardship
  • Previous supervisor experience is a plus
  • Programing skills
  • Hands-on experience in start-up and commissioning of new lab or pilot plant equipment
