Shanghai - World Clean Up Day

On a rainy, windy day in September 2019, Typhoon Tapah passed through Shanghai - but, the weather did not stop 12 Albemarle employees from showing up, ready to volunteer for the local "Pick in Red" clean up event. The event was organized by the Shanghai United Foundation, which was established in 2009 as a 5A grade independent public foundation in Shanghai. “It was an impressive event because we didn’t let the terrible weather stop us," said Stephen Zhou, HR Business Partner. “Care is one of Albemarle's Core Values. We Care for our people, our community and our environment."

According to Shanghai United Foundation, a total of 908.5 kilograms of dry garbage, 80.64 kilograms of recyclable waste and 653 pieces of hazardous waste were removed during the cleanup efforts. There was also a fundraising component to the event. By noon on the day of the cleanup, the Albemarle employees had raised over CNY 5,008 (approximately $700 USD) and ranked first out of the 15 groups. The fundraising continues until the end of September.

Justin Chen, China Country Manager said, “The Shanghai office is a pioneer site. There will be more community actions taken at all of our China sites soon." Thanks to the employees who showed the Courage to brave the bad weather and the Care to help make a difference. Together we will Grow the Good!
