Perception vs Reality: Using Stabilized Bromine for Biocidal Applications

Albemarle's stabilized bromine (Stabrom 909) is a highly efficient bromine-based biocide that offers dependable, long-lasting protection for commercial and industrial water systems. However, there is an industry perception that stabilized bromine can’t be used in certain biocidal applications, because the system will become overstabilized and the biocide will become ineffective. This perception was based only on anecdotal data and not thorough scientific experiments.

This paper is the first to examine the issue in a rigorous way, showing that, while overstabilization can occur, it occurs at stabilizer levels much higher than was previously believed. Click the image below to view a PDF version of this paper.
