How we're Making "Each for Equal" an Ongoing Commitment

Today is International Women’s Day (IWD), a time to raise awareness against gender bias and celebrate the achievements of women that we know, admire and respect. At Albemarle, we are excited to participate in the conversation and work alongside other global supporters to stress the importance of inclusivity and equality… but, we are even more excited to shift our March 8th celebration from a one-day event to a continuous global commitment.

International Women’s Day is more than just a 24-hour celebration
While we’re certainly showing support by wearing purple and hosting IWD events at many of our sites, we know that there’s more work to do. IWD is a call to action for individuals everywhere to commit to women’s equality through visibility, activism and awareness. Throughout 2020, our employees are making this commitment by having important conversations, participating in life-changing programs, forming valuable networks and hosting eye-opening events intended to keep equality top-of-mind. Here’s a sneak peek at some of their efforts:

Albemarle Women CONNECT Program – Albemarle Women CONNECT is a new employee development program designed to educate, inspire and encourage women as they progress toward meeting their individual goals. The program officially launched at the end of 2019, and by the end of 2020, 60 women from across the globe will be actively participating in the robust program.

Women-Focused Employee Resource Groups – Through grassroots efforts, employees have begun forming local employee resource groups to support the women of Albemarle. Currently, these groups are located in Amsterdam, Chile, and North Carolina, but we're seeing an increased interest by employees to start groups at other sites across the globe. In addition to hosting localized events, this year, the groups plan to enhance their collaboration with one another to establish a global women’s network that promotes interaction, professional development and philanthropy.

Focusing on Female Recruiting – With support from our Diversity Recruiting Specialist, our Talent Acquisition team is making efforts to be more inclusive of women and minority groups. This year the team will partner with Fairygodboss (an online women’s community that promotes expert career advice, job openings and company reviews) to promote open positions with Albemarle and encourage current female employees to share candid reviews about the company's culture.

There are many ways to forge a gender-equal world, and our employees are doing their part by courageously making strides that will foster positive, valuable, and impactful results.
