2022 Gottwald Scholarship Program Recipients

Since its inception, the Albemarle Foundation’s Gottwald Scholarship program has granted more than $850,000 in scholarship funds to dependents of Albemarle employees and retirees.

Scholarships are available for both four-year Universities and Colleges and two-year Community or Junior College in the U.S. The awards can be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required to pursue the study for which the scholarship is granted. The Floyd D. Gottwald Scholarship is $5,000 per year of eligibility, and the remaining scholarships are $2,500 per year.

The Albemarle Foundation is pleased to announce the 2022 Albemarle Gottwald Scholarship program award winners:

Shakayla Sears-Frazier: Floyd D. Gottwald Scholar

Shakayla will graduate from Magnolia High School in Arkansas. She plans to major in pre-veterinary at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. Shakayla is the daughter of Jekebran and Kesha Johnson. Jekebran is a Chemical Operator at Albemarle’s Magnolia site.

Sarah Baldwin

Sarah will graduate from Cuthbertson High School in Waxhaw, North Carolina. She plans to pursue a degree in biology on a pre-physical therapy track from Washington University in St. Louis. Sarah is the daughter of Brad and LaDonna Baldwin. Brad is a Regional Talent Acquisition Manager at Albemarle’s Headquarters in Charlotte.

Sarah Slebodnik

Sarah will graduate from Clear Falls High School in Texas. She plans to pursue a degree in applied sciences from San Jacinto College in Texas. Sarah is the daughter of Gary and Marybel Slebodnik. Gary is a shift supervisor in the FCC Unit at our Bayport site.

Ananya Venkatachalam

Ananya will graduate from Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. She plans to pursue a degree in biological sciences with a concentration in integrated physiology and neurobiology from North Carolina State University in Raleigh. Ananya is the daughter of Subramanian Venkatachalam and Gayathre Krishnan. Subramanian is a R&T Manager at Albemarle’s Kings Mountain site.


Jared Zhang

Jared will graduate from Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Illinois. He plans to pursue a degree in economics and political science from the University of Virginia. Jared is the son of Zhaorong Zhang and Jen Wang. Zhaorong is an R&T Advisor at Albemarle’s Baton Rouge PDC.
