Printed wire board

Printed wiring boards (PWBs), also called printed circuit boards, hold microchips and other electronic components used to run computers, telecommunications equipment, industrial controls and other devices. Exposed to constant heat and electrical current, PWB base laminates can be made of either epoxy or phenolic (thermoset) resins, rigid or flexible, that are required to meet certain flammability standards. (FR-4 boards, for example, must meet UL94 V0.)

To improve the flammability of epoxy-based PWBs, we recommend the use of SAYTEX® CP-2000 flame retardant, a reactive flame retardant with stable aromatic bromine that can be incorporated into the backbone of the epoxy resin and, therefore, will not leach out of the polymer. Due to its high purity and low ionic content, polymers based on SAYTEX CP-2000 possess excellent electrical properties.

For high-speed, low frequency applications and resins requiring high thermal stability, we recommend SAYTEX BT-93 and SAYTEX 8010 flame retardants. These non-polar additives contain very stable aromatic bromine and allow the formulator to develop resin systems with low dielectric constants and dissipation factors (depending on resin and operating frequency), leading to superior electrical properties.

For non-halogenated solutions, we offer MARTINAL® TS grade flame retardants, increased-thermal-stability aluminum hydroxides engineered to meet the demanding requirements of CEM-3 and FR-4 mineral-based laminates for printed wire boards.
