Aromatic saturation
line

Aromatic saturation of mid-distillate feedstocks can be accomplished using noble metal or base metal catalysts. Each approach has advantages and disadvantages. Albemarle offers both catalyst technologies.

Noble metal catalysts are preferred when the feedstock is clean and very high levels of aromatic removal are desired. Noble metal catalysts are able to reach very low aromatic content products at moderate pressures. Base metal catalysts are less expensive and more forgiving in terms of process and feed properties. Base metal catalysts will typically require much higher pressure to achieve the aromatic reduction of noble metal catalysts. However, when aromatic removal needs are more modest, a base metal catalyst may produce the required product properties at a lower cost and a much more robust operation.
