Olefin/Octane enhancement

Optimizing FCC gasoline octane and increasing the yield of the valuable light olefins, especially propylene and butylenes, remain a major challenge for many refiners.

FCC additives containing the shape selective zeolite ZSM-5 have been used throughout the world for almost twenty years by refiners looking to boost LPG olefins and/or FCC gasoline octane. A unique tailored pore size allows ZSM-5 to preferentially crack C7-C10 linear (and near-linear) gasoline olefins into more valuable lighter products, predominately C3= and C4=’s. Without ZSM-5, most of these C7-C10 molecules would otherwise end up as low octane gasoline components.

Albemarle has a full range of ZSM-5 additives, ranging in concentration of ZSM-5 crystals, and tailored for varying yield of propylene, butylenes and gasoline octane increase.
