The Albemarle Chemicals UK Limited, Avonmouth Site occupies approximately 14 acres, and is located on the A403, between Avonmouth and Severn Beach, close to Bristol, England. The Avonmouth site operates on a 24-hour, 7 days per week shift system, employing batch, semi-continuous and continuous processes. The site directly employs 79 staff, plus contract labour for maintenance duties.

At the Avonmouth site, Albemarle manufactures a broad range of speciality chemicals including Flame Retardants, which are used for the production of flexible and rigid polyurethane’s (foams). These foams have subsequent applications in automotive, furnishing & mattress, and the construction industries. In addition some water management chemicals are produced, such as biocides and corrosion inhibitors. Because of the raw materials, the site is classied as a Top Tier Comah, and operates under very strict permits and regulations.

Awards and Recognition

• The Avonmouth site has a good reputation on safety and environment. In 2005 the site received the Diamond Award, for 10 consecutive years meeting the UK safety targets.
• The site received the Albemarle Chairmans Award for 1 year with no reportable environmental incidents and no recordable injury.
• The Avonmouth site has a strong partnership with the Orangeburg site in the US, with a high-ranking position in the Manufacturing Excellence - World Pairs Competition.
