Port-de-Bouc, France

The Port-de-Bouc site is located in southern France directly on the Golfe de Lion outside of Marseille. The site is a relative new comer to Albemarle, with sections purchased in two different acquisitions. The first in 2000, Albemarle purchased the Brominated Polystyrene Flame Retardant Business from Ferro and more recently, “across the fence”, the Atofina S.A. Bromine Fine Chemicals plant, in 2003.

The combined Port-de-Bouc plant employs approximately 180 people, and produces a wide variety of Bromine Fine chemicals and intermediates.

The first acquisition was key in our puzzle strategy to become the leading Fire Safety company in the world, while the second more recent purchase allowed Albemarle greater global strength in Bromine derivatives and fine chemicals.
